About Mrs. Harris
I earned my bachelor's degree in elementary and early childhood education from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. In September of 2009 I received my master's degree in mathematics, grades K-5. I have been teaching for a total of 17 years, 16 of which I have been at Hawkins Street School. My experience in teaching ranges from kindergarten, fourth, fifth and sixth grades. For the past ten years my teaching focus has been specifically mathematics.
In 2003 I received the colloquim award with Hawkins St. Literacy coach, Mrs. Seremenho. I was honored to be named Hawkins Street School Teacher of the Year in June of 2015. Three years I have been acknowledged as having exemplary projects for the Newark Public Schools mathematics fair. During the 2008 and 2009 school years I worked collaboratively with Ms. Mahmoud (1st grade teacher) on interdisciplinary projects.
In January, 1998 I became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. (Plainfield Chapter). As an active member I have served as anti grammateus (recording secretary) , tamias grammateus ( treasurer- secretary) and fundraising chair. Currently I am the tamias (treasurer). In 1999 I was honored as Zeta of the Year.
Some of my favorite pastimes include planting flowers, reading, playing chess, spending time with my niece and nephew, watching football (Just like my older brother, I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan) and cooking. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE cooking and hope to one day attend culinary school.
